BAINBRIDGE, Alick. Pte 108719 Royal Engineers.
Alick was born in Hutton Rudby in 1891 to Henry Bainbridge aged 24, a local builder and his wife Susan aged 26. Henry married Susan Bainbridge in 1889 a distant relative, both living in Hutton Rudby. Susan died in 1903 leaving Henry to look after Walter aged 12, Alick aged 11, Berwick aged 10 and Maud aged 8. In 1905 his father married Mary Taylor and by 1911 Walter was a builders clerk, Alick a builder, Berwick a horseman on a farm and Maud assisted Mary on the farm. Mary had given birth to Edger William aged 4, Zelah aned 2 and Frederick had just been born.
